Ready for St. Patrick's Day?

St. Patrick's day falls on Sunday this year.
After sitting under the sun for boy's baseball games for good 3 hours, I won't be planning on staring at Shamrock plant.  I will be having a beer(Guinness) with corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes, maybe Irish soda bread!    6 packs of Guinness is $1 cheaper than a pot of Shamrock plant anyways. . .
今年のセント・パトリックスデーは、日曜日です。
息子達の野球の試合の為、各地で催されるパレードやフェスティバルの参加は残念ながら今年は無理。 ということで、お家でゆっくりギネスを飲みながら、コーンドビーフ、チャベツ、ポテトを作って食べます。 花より団子．．．ではありませんが、シャムロック（クローバー）の鉢植えより、私は、ギネスビールの６本詰めを選択。 シャムロック（クローバー）の鉢植えより、１ドル安いお値段だったのが、最後の押しでしたね。いえ、押しがなくても、ギネスを選んでました。

名をなのれ! お主は何者じゃ?

鮮やかな濃いピンク色の桃の木に感動し、以前写真を勝手に撮らせてもらいFB投稿した同じお宅で、こんな珍しいお花を発見。

紅白の重弁花がまじって咲く一本の花桃の木!  名をなのれ! お主は何者じゃ? っと思うこと２日が過ぎてしまいました。 そんな矢先に、故郷に住むFBフレンドによる今朝の投稿で、同じお花を目撃!

源平桃と云うそうです。S さん曰く、源氏と平家が入り乱れて戦ったことに例えられて付けられた名前だそうです。

壇ノ浦で行われた源平最後の合戦では、源氏軍に破れ滅亡した平家。
どっちの色がどっちか気になったので調べてみると、白＝源氏、紅（赤）＝平家だそうです。
予想していた通り、壇ノ浦の戦いで沢山血を流して破れた側の平家が、紅（赤）でございました。

Easer is just around the corner (もうすぐイースター)

イースターのデコレーションに変えると、家の中にも春が訪 れた感じ。無性に心が弾みます。

Every year around this time, I'm clueless when exactly Easter is. My son said Easter Sunday this year is March 31. He continued . . . It will be on April 20 next year.
The dates of Easter are based on the full Moon and the vernal equinox.
Thank you my son, but I will probably ask you again around this time of the year.

Easter Gummy Bunnies．．．季節限定発売ものに弱いんです。半透明の春らしい鮮やかな色合いとウサギちゃんの笑顔に誘惑されて、ついつい．．．

パッケージを開けたときの爽やかな匂いに、やっぱり買ってよかったと自己満足。 なかなか結構なお味でした。

I'm such a sucker for seasonal items only sold during a certain time of the year.
Spring like pretty colors were so inviting.  I swear these gummy bunnies were smiling at me and whispering to my ears,  "pick us up", "put us in your shopping cart", "take me home with you".

When I opened the package and the wonderful sweet smell came out, I was glad that I brought these bunnies home.  They tasted pretty good, too.

Nice Play! 初めてスポットライトを浴びながら．．．

エー スの弟に、いつもスッポットライトを奪われてばかりの長男。 昨日の試合では、ショートストップにて相手チームでもスラガーと言われる強敵の打球を、ジャンプしてシングルキャッチ!　嬉しくて、笑顔が（永久歯がなか なか生えない...前の歯茎が）隠せません。 取れるなんて期待していなかった親は、カメラの用意が出来ていませんでした。ごめんね。相手チームAngelsとの初勝利でよい野球日和となりました。 ゴー、レインジャーズ!

My middle son always steals the spot light from my eldest when it comes to baseball. However, my eldest was in a big bright spotlight during yesterday's game. He jumped, reached his arm high, and caught a pop-fly by the slugger of the opponent team.
He couldn't help smiling(couldn't help showing his front gum...it's taking so long to get his teeth come out in front) for the rest of the inning. So happy to see him so proud of how well he played and so happy for contributing to his team. It got even better as the Rangers got their first win against the Angels. Go Rangers!

空気ぬけぬけの前無し歯で、シングルキャッチの状況を延々と語っておりました。ホントに嬉しかったんだね。

シングルキャッチの素晴らしいパフォーマンスに、お祝いの言葉をかけにベンチへ。
嬉しくてしょうがないこの表情、亡き母とこの子にしかないえくぼも、きらっと輝いていました。

Japanese American National Museum (全米日系人博物館 Zenbei Nikkeijin Hakubutsukan

ロサンゼルス、リトル東京にあるJapanese American National Museumに行って来ました。
1992年に開館されたこの全米日系人博物館、モダンでいかにもミュージアムといった雰囲気の建物です。




パビリオンの向かいに見える煉瓦立てのレトロな建物、そこはなんと1925年にオリジナルのJapanese American National Museumが初めて設立された本派（西本)本願寺だったのです。

展示されているもの全てに、沢山の情報が溢れ、その一つ一つに心を動かされてしまいました。
日系アメリカ人が築き上げてきた130年間以上の歴史が、ずっしりと詰まった博物館でした。

土地も財産も、全て日本に残してアメリカに渡って来た一世（Issei)の汗と涙の物語が、写真、農具、詩を通して伝わってきます。

日本から大事に持参してきた伝統品に、日本文化を異国の地で敬う心が、手を取るように分かります。

第二次世界大戦中の、マンザナー強制収容所（Manzanar War Relocation Center)での日系人の生活振りや、パールハーバー攻撃後の日系人に対する差別の内容などが、様々な展示を通して詳しく記されていました。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Performance by Taiko Project at JANM (太鼓プロジェクト)

 JANM (Japanese American National Museum)は、設立前からずっと気になっていましたが、開館してからも行かずじまいで、数年が経ってしまいました。今日は、私にとって初めて全米日系人博物館 Zenbei Nikkeijin Hakubutsukan を訪れる、記念すべき日となりました。

博物館のパビリオンでの”太鼓プロジェクト”の皆さんによる日本太鼓のパフォーマンスに、入場する前から感動で胸がいっぱいになってしまいました。

随分と日本に里帰りしていないからなのか、日本太鼓の音色と鼓動に胸を衝かれた様な、そんな衝撃をうけました。 でも、そう思ったのはパフォーマンスの後。  ビデオを撮っている間は、自分の中に湧き出てくる感情がどんな類のものであるかの確認が取れなかったのです。感動が大きすぎて、そして想像出来てなくて、 ほっぺに流れる涙にも気づいていなかったのです。

自分が持つ日本文化と歴史に誇りを持った瞬間だったのと、母国が恋しくなった瞬間だったと思います。 そして、アメリカ生まれアメリカ育ちの若い世代が日本の伝統を引き継いで行って下さる姿に、心を打たれました。 太鼓プロジェクトの皆さん、素晴らしいパフォーマンスをどうも有難うございました。

Shame on me for not having ever gone to JANM (Japanese American National Museum) before.  I always have been wanted to go even before it was open. 
Even before I stepped inside of the museum, I was stunned by the performance by "Taiko Project " in front of the museum.  I was so moved by the sound of Taiko drums, but didn't grasp or recognize what types of feelings I was having right away.  I didn't notice the tears running down on my cheeks while I was video taping the performance. 

After I realized my cheeks so wet with tears, I felt the pride of being Japanese and having such wonderful culture and history.  At the same time, I start missing my home country.
The members of "Taiko Project" are American born and raised.
I am so thankful for them for passing Japanese traditions on to young generations of Japanese Americans and helping people like me to keep in touch with our  beautiful culture.

 

 

A stroll in Little Tokyo, Downtown LA － 大黒屋らーめん

久々にロサンゼルス、ダウンタウンに来ています。
第一の目的地は、Japanese American National Museumです。
Targetのスポンサーにより、今日は一日中入館料が無料です。
その上、太鼓プロジェクトによるパフォーマンスも見れるとのこと。
先ずは、腹ごしらえ。 大黒屋のこってりラーメンを頂くために、1時間半待ちです。
息子達の腹減った虫が、イライラ、チクチク騒ぎ始めています。
博多豚骨ラーメンにとっても似てて美味しいので、食べれるまで待ちます。

Before heading to Japanese American National Museum (The admission is free all day today as Target is sponsoring), we had Ramen at Daikokuya after waiting to be seated for over an hour & a half. Their Ramen is so good, it's so worth for waiting.

お腹が空き過ぎて、カメラに向けてのにっこりに無理が。

 中で待ったり、外で待ったり、早くたべたいよ～。

中で待つ人、外で待つ人、食べている人、すごい混み様です。

大黒屋ラーメンです。こってり豚骨スープが体中に染みていく感じだわ~。

ラーメンコンボについてくるミニ鰻丼、ボリュームたっぷり。

ラーメンコンボに付いてくるShreded Pork丼、これも美味しい!

日本のむか～しからある食堂のアンビアンスその物で、妙に落ち着きます。

キンチョール、ボンカレー、オロナミンCなどの昭和時代を思わせる看板が．．．懐かし～。

 

Japanese Doll's Festival 雛祭り (Hinamatsuri)

3月３日は雛祭り。
我が家は男の子ばっかり3人で、あまり関係ない日ですが．．．
もし、将来息子達に娘が出来た時の事を考えて、日本の伝統をしっかり知っておいてもらいたく、

一応かたちだけのお祝いです。
伝統と言っても、雛アラレの代わりにマシュマロやプレッツェルなど使ってますけど．．．

「うちは女の子いないけど．．．」 と説明を始めると、3歳末っ子が「How about you?　You are a girl.  You are a big girl」と笑顔で言ってくれました。その後、ポニーテールをしてリボンをつけたら普通に女の子になれるよとまで言ってくれました。調子にのって、今日はポニーテールにさり気なく、小さいリボンをつけています。(苦笑)

Today, March 3rd is Japanese Dolls Day (Hinamatsuri).
If you only have boys in your household, it is not typically celebrated in any shapes or forms.
However, I choose to celebrate "Hinamatsuri" in our family through we only have 3 boys...
In case my 3 boys will have daughters when they became dad in the future, I want them to keep their Japanese culture and traditions passed on to their children and their grand children.
As I was explaining this tradition to my boys this morning, my 3 year old said, " How about you? You are a girl.  You are a big girl".  He continued excitedly, "If you have a ponytail and put a ribbon on your head, you'll be just like a girl".

The dolls here in the picture was given by my dad after I had my youngest son. 
He said he wanted to give this gift now in case I will have a grand daughters as he probably won't be around to be able to do so.
I really hope he will stick around to tell my grand daughters the dolls are from him some day.

3月２日は、"The Cat in the Hat"などの作品で名の知れる Dr. Seuss (スース博士）の誕生日です。
面白可笑しいストーリーとイラストで、多くの子供達を読書の世界、Phonicsの習得に導いてきた数々の彼の作品は、リズム感があり、どれも楽しいものばかり。

Dr. Seuss (スース博士）の名言は、大人の心にも強く、熱く、響き続けます。

Dr. Seuss (スース博士）の誕生日を祝い、息子達の学校では Read-a-thon（読書マラソン）の時間が設けられ、パジャマで学校にいってもよい日です。

Dr. Seuss (スース博士）の本、ブランケット、枕、ぬいぐるみなどを持参で、生徒達は登校。
今朝は、可愛いPJ 姿の生徒、先生達が校庭に集合していました。

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mason Jar Ceiling lights

Every time I see creative ways of using Mason Jars, my heart melts by dreaming a stylish country living.   I've seen a guy walking into a cafe with a Mason Jar with a piece of tree branch as a handle wrapped around the jar with a copper wire.  He ordered ice tea in his home made Mason Jar cup and headed to the sunny terrace table. 
Last night I spotted another Mason Jar master piece. . . such a creative lighting hanging from the ceiling at the bar I was at. 

ジャム作り、ピクルス作りで使うメイソンジャー、容器以外の粋なインテリアやクリエイティブな使用法を見る度に、スタイリッシュなカントリーリビングを想像して、目がハートになってしまいます。
以前旅行先のカフェにて、メイソンジャー手作りカップを持参の男性が、アイスティーを注文しているのを目撃。 太目の木の枝を取っ手代わりに利用、コッパーワイヤーでジャーに巻きつけてありました。 陽だまりのテラステーブルに向う途中、お日様の光がメイソンジャーのアイスティーに反射してキラキラ輝いていたのが印象的でした。
昨晩行ったレストランのBarで、こんなメイソンジャーのマスターピースをスッポトしました。
レストランの天上から釣り下がるメイソンジャーの照明です。
